Women carrying their children walk through a village

The starting point

The centre covers eleven villages. Power cuts forced midwives to work by torchlight, and night emergencies were referred to a hospital two hours away.

What the Foundation funded

Installation of a solar system with batteries, purchase of two delivery tables, a steriliser and twelve months of consumables.

What it produced

Night deliveries have been handled on site since installation. The centre recorded a fifty per cent rise in antenatal consultations.
