A grant programme targeting final-year students only — the point at which dropping out costs the most.
The nursing school recorded drop-outs in the third year every year. Students who had completed two full years gave up because they could not pay the final registration. The diploma, and with it a job, slipped away within months of the end.
Rather than spreading support across three years, the Foundation chose to fund only the last. Eighteen grants covering registration, books and equipment were awarded on application, with the school as selection partner.
Seventeen of the eighteen grant holders graduated. Fourteen were working in a health facility within six months.
